UNE Rankings & Accreditation
Top Ranked
The University of New England is ranked as one of the Best Universities in the North offering “master’s programs” in the 2008 edition of “America’s Best Colleges” from U.S. News & World Report.
UNE was ranked 67th in the top tier of this category and no other college or university in Maine was ranked higher. This is the sixth year that U.S. News has ranked UNE a top regional university.
Regionally Accredited
The University of New England is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, (NEASC)*, which accredits schools and colleges in the six New England states. Accreditation by the Association indicates that the institution has been carefully evaluated and found to meet standards agreed upon by qualified educators and the U.S. Department of Education.
Importance of Regional Accreditation
Regional accreditation is the primary type of institutional accreditation in the United States. Some institutions with online programs hold national accreditation because they are unwilling or unable to meet the rigorous standards of regional accreditation. Also, many educational institutions holding regional accreditation do not recognize credits or degrees earned at institutions that are nationally accredited. This is an important distinction if you plan on transferring from one college or university to another during your degree program, or if you plan to pursue additional degrees at different colleges or universities.
