My journey as a student

Deciding to go back to school was a daunting thought at first. It has been several years since I completed my Bachelor’s and I was getting used to the routine of adult life—work, sleep and wake up the next morning to do the same thing all over again. I wasn’t even sure of how disciplined I would be now that I had a taste of adult life and had so many responsibilities, from family to an active social life.

My journey as a student began with a newly-developed interest for the healthcare industry. I work in a job where I interact with medical personnel and over time I have seen that there is a great future for careers in healthcare-related fields. The opportunities that the healthcare industry offers are countless, particularly in the area of public health administration.

When selecting an MBA program, I began to look for curriculum that incorporated not just real-world application of the knowledge, but also of an option or track that focused on healthcare management. After all, having had a taste of this industry and working on earning a business degree would be very useful in creating new career opportunities for a better future.

Now my journey has begun and it has been challenging and rewarding so far. The knowledge I have acquired has created new perspectives for my future, in addition to creating an opportunity to apply this knowledge to my daily work. I have also found out that time management is essential in navigating through the curriculum—from prioritizing my reading and research to finding time to submit my assignments.

I have also enjoyed support from both my employer and my family, which makes a huge difference in how I approach studying as an adult on an online program. Without support, I probably would not be as focused. In this journey there are great days and not-so-great days and having a strong support network makes all the difference in the world since it helps me refocus on what’s important.
