Occupational Safety Degree

Earn Your Master’s Degree from the Pioneer in Safety, Security & Emergency Management with a Concentration in Occupational Safety

The need for educated and experienced professionals in occupational safety continues to rise as do the job opportunities available to such professionals. Eastern Kentucky University recognized this need and has developed an Occupational Safety concentration within the Master of Science in Safety, Security & Emergency Management degree program. In addition, EKU has developed an Occupational Safety certificate which can be completed independently of the degree program. Should you decide you would like to continue your education after completing the certificate, the credits you earn can be transferred over and applied to the Master’s degree program.

The Occupational Safety Concentration/Certificate is designed to:

  • Provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in a high-level safety position.
  • Educate students on the personal and environmental risks within the workplace; how to assess, analyze and develop safety, emergency management, security, and environmental compliance programs; and how to investigate, manage, and prevent hazards/threats in the workplace.
  • Prepare graduates for employment in a variety of executive-level safety positions. Our graduates have been hired as managers and directors by major organizations such as Ford Motor Company, Coca-Cola, General Electric, and the Marriott Corporation.

What our Students are Saying

The Safety, Security & Emergency Management faculty at Eastern Kentucky University are the epitome of exemplary performance and professionalism. The professors not only strive to provide students with real-world skills and knowledge, but also address current events and/or trends in the safety industry, which is vital to staying current regarding the hazards that face the American worker. I would recommend this program to any safety professional who wants to learn technical skills, strategies, and practices that they can immediately use in their profession
